Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the points lead from his teammate by just one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, if briefly, when he lost control at the fourth corner soon after starting.
The Japanese lost control over the curbs on exit before rotating through the gravel trap, and was fortunate to escape with just a minor contact of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed corner leading to the final corner on to the main straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber P3, over half a second off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
