It's difficult for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

We're talking about the team that has won seven Cricket World Cups, plus another six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed nearly four years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, the ones sought by the peak baggers, are all that remain for a squad that has won it all.

That it took as late as Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase above 300, regaining their record for the highest in the women's 50-over format, is, honestly, a tribute to the bowling attack that have sported the yellow jersey over the past 50 years.

It's difficult for their batters to hold a record if never given the possibility.

Ultimately, the result of Australia conceding 330 was leader Alyssa Healy receiving a chance to create her newest gem.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the title decider and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this latest epic knock exceeded that prior achievement can be debated.

Many contend the argument supporting championship match pressure. Some might respond with the challenge that comes when facing a record target and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's definite is this century was much more difficult to anticipate.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 happened while she led the batting statistics, but this performance was preceded by six games in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in the nets, it has been a frustrating experience because it appeared I lacked timing at all," commented Healy.

"However when you enter the playing area, your fighting spirit kick in and you completely engage with the competition."

Healy's competitiveness has always been her key asset - and an irreplaceable characteristic in succeeding famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, out to the emerging pace bowler in every game, but this time it merely gave Healy's inspiration.

A single came off the bowler's initial ball and from there the right-hander was in motion.

"The possibility to go out there and lock in a contest with her and merely enjoy the moment in that regard, sort of got me going," stated Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 deliveries - her swiftest at the global tournament - and her hundred in 84 as she flogged anything short, striking 21 boundaries and three maximums.

When she was out the team needed 66 more at run per delivery - an unconquered height now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"To chase 330 is uncharted waters so I'm pleased we have the confidence to do that now," added Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it again but, should it happen, we know we can do it."

Those words will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this championship need to hear.

During the last week a feeling they will triumph from any situation has grown stronger - this success following success over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite being 76-7 at one point.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a match against old rivals England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final berth may well be secure.

It was in the semi-finals they were eliminated from the prior year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy was absent due to damaged tissue in her foot as she led her country for the first time at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she regretted not playing with the discomfort.

However although she subsequently acknowledged those fitness problems have pushed back thoughts of retirement, this championship is likely to be her final tournament as skipper in one-day cricket and she is still to achieve a global event as skipper.

Victory in India would lead her to the peak of her last major obstacle.
